• To cancel an application, you must meet the median wage requirement at the time of application; the threshold will be locked based on your starting salary.
• Points awarded for New Zealand local qualifications have been increased, and the required local work experience has been reduced from 3 years to 2 years.
• Introducing "red and orange occupation lists" to manage immigration risks and make the pathway more targeted.
B. Required conditions for applicants
The basic requirements for the two new corridors are as follows (effective at the end of August 2026):
Channel 1: Technical Work Experience Channel
Project specific requirements
Job level ANZSCO skill level 1, 2 or 3
At least 5 years of directly related full-time technical work experience
New Zealand local experience, including at least 2 years completed in New Zealand.
Salary requirement: Hourly wage must be at least 1.1 times the median wage during your work period in New Zealand.
Channel Two: Channel for Skilled Workers and Technicians
Project specific requirements
Skilled and technical occupations specified in the occupational scope (ANZSCO skill levels 1-3)
Educational requirement: Holding a Level 4 or higher qualification certificate in a relevant field
Work experience: at least 4 years of directly related full-time work experience after obtaining the degree
New Zealand local experience, with at least 18 months completed in New Zealand and a salary no less than the median.
General basic requirements (both channels must meet these requirements)
• Age: 55 years and under
• English: IELTS overall score of 6.5 or equivalent (for applicants holding professional registration, the validity period of the test score is extended to 5 years)
• Health and Conduct: Passing a physical examination and criminal record check.
• Job opportunity: Usually requires a full-time job offer from a New Zealand certified employer.
C. Recommendation
1. Matching Careers with Careers Channels
The new policy introduces a "red and orange occupational list," with different channels applicable to different occupations:
• Green (Skilled Worker Pathway List): Can apply through Pathway Two, with relatively lower requirements.
• Orange List: Cannot use the skilled trades pathway; must meet higher salary requirements (1.2 times the median) and longer experience requirements (5 years of experience, including 2 years in New Zealand).
• Red List: Unable to use the new pathway, must use the existing 6-point system (annual salary 1.5 times median/undergraduate degree or above/professional registration, plus New Zealand work experience)
Recommendation: Identify your career category as early as possible and plan accordingly.
2. Prepare the chain of evidence in advance.
The new pathway emphasizes "practical experience" and requires complete supporting documentation.

• Work experience verification: Job description, employer recommendation letter (clearly stating skill level)
• Qualifications and certifications: Overseas qualifications need to be certified by NZQA in advance; Level 4 or higher technical qualifications need to be confirmed to be on the recognized list.
• Time tracking: Precisely calculates technical work hours in New Zealand (calculated monthly, meeting minimum monthly requirements).
3. Pay attention to salary lock-in rules.
A major benefit of the new policy is that the salary requirement is based on the median wage "when you begin accumulating skilled work experience," rather than the standard at the time of application submission. If the median wage increases during your work in New Zealand, it will not affect your eligibility.
Strategy: It is recommended to start technical work within 5 months of obtaining a work visa in order to lock in the salary threshold at the time of visa approval.

D. New Zealand Skilled Migrant Visa Application Process
Phase 1: Self-Assessment and Preparation

Phase Two: Submit Expression of Interest (EOI)

Phase 3: Submitting the formal application
