The Netherlands is part of the Schengen Area, and short-term tourist visas typically allow a stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Applications are now fully digital, and the core requirement is proof of sufficient funds and a commitment to return home on time.

Tourist visas are short-stay Schengen visas, primarily for travel within the Netherlands or the entire Schengen Area, with a maximum stay of 90 days. Visas are issued directly by the Dutch Embassy and Consulates in China, and the latest online application process has been fully implemented since April 14, 2026.

Eligibility & Requirements

• Passport: The validity period must be more than 3 months beyond the departure date (6 months or more is recommended), and at least 2 pages must be blank.
• Funds: €55 per day, it is recommended to provide 3-6 months of bank statements with a balance of 30,000-50,000 RMB or more.
• Insurance: Coverage of at least 30,000 euros, covering the entire Schengen Area and the length of stay.
• Boundaries to return to China: Proof of employment/study or other documents demonstrating no intention to overstay.
• Inviting party: If staying with relatives or friends, the inviter needs to apply for a certified guarantee from the Dutch city hall; if staying in a hotel, a full booking confirmation is required.

• Reasonable itinerary: It is advisable to apply for a single trip of 15-20 days. Applications that are too long may be rejected.
• Apply in advance: The official recommendation is to apply 3 weeks in advance, but during peak periods it may take up to 45 days or longer.
• Do not issue tickets in advance: Submit your reservation only, do not pay in advance to issue tickets.
• Fingerprint registration: Must be collected by the individual; those who have had their fingerprints registered within the last 59 months are exempt.
• Visa refusal processing: Free appeal; supplementary materials are required for reapplication.
Application process
Phase 1: Online form completion
Register on the official website (consular.mfaservices.nl) and generate a form with a barcode for printing and signature. Note: Handwritten or scanned copies are not accepted.
Phase Two: Appointment
Make an appointment on the visa application center's official website, and it is strongly recommended to book your flight and hotel only before your visa is issued.
Phase Three: Preparing Core Materials
• Basics: old and new passports, application form, photo (35×45mm white background).
• Financial resources: Bank statements (balance suggested: 30,000-50,000 RMB), proof of employment/enrollment.
• Itinerary: Accommodation certificate, round-trip flight booking confirmation, daily schedule.
• Insurance: A copy of the insurance policy that meets the requirements.
Phase 4: Submission and Fingerprinting
Arrive as scheduled, submit your documents, and have your fingerprints taken. The fee is approximately 510 RMB (60 Euros), service fees are not included.
Phase 5: Trial and Receipt
It usually takes 15 business days, but may take up to a month during peak season. You can pick it up in person or have it mailed to you.
